Instagram has now rolled out a new feature to hide like and view counts on Instagram Posts.
Instagram has been testing this feature in some of the countries since 2019, but now the feature is available globally.
The reason to hide like counts is to combat the negative impact that people have on their mental health. Instagram believes that people are so much obsessed with likes which can have a negative effect on them.
So, a feature to control like & view counts is introduced in the app. However, it’s the user’s choice whether to opt for it or not.
You can hide like and view counts on:
Other people’s posts: You won’t see the number of likes and views on posts from other accounts. But you can see your own post’s likes.
Your own posts: This won’t let other users see the number of likes and views on your post.
Below is a detailed guide on how to use this new feature.
How to hide likes on other users’ posts on Instagram
Step 1: Open Instagram App and go to your profile.
Step 2: Tap on the three lines at the top-right corner.
Step 3: Click on Settings.
Step 4: Click on Privacy.
Step 5: Tap on Posts.
Step6: Now on the option Hide Like and View Counts, you can turn it On or Off as per your choice.
If you turn it ON, it will hide the like and view counts on other user’s posts. You will not be able to see likes & views on all posts on Instagram.
How to turn off the number of likes on Instagram on your own posts
This can be done in two ways. One after publishing the post and the other before publishing.
Before posting (while creating a post):
Step 1: On your profile, click on the + icon and select Feed Post.
Step 2: Select the photo that you want to post.
Step 3: Click next indicted by the arrow button.
Step 4: You will be taken to the screen to add a caption, tag people, location.
Step 5: Enter your caption and complete all the necessary things
Step 6: Select Advanced Settings at the bottom
Step 7: Now, turn “ON” Hide Like and View Counts on This Post.
Now, other users including you will not be able to see the counts.
After Posting:
- Go to your post that you want to hide the like count.
- Tap on the three dots at the top-right corner of the post.
- Click on Hide Like Count.
How to unhide likes on Instagram
To unhide the like and view counts, just reverse the above-mentioned process. That is, you can turn “OFF” Hide Like and View Counts.
