When you see a green circle on somebody’s Instagram story, it means you are on their Close Friends list. They have added you to their Close Friends list which is why you are seeing a green circle around their profile picture when they share stories specifically for the close friends.
You can also create stories and share them with friends of your choice by creating a close friends list.
Here’s how to create and add friends to your Close Friends List.
Step 1: Launch the Instagram app and head into your profile section.
Step 2: Tap the top-right menu icon (3 horizontal lines).
