It’s important for you to know the basics of Instagram. Well, there are many things to learn if you’re just starting to use Instagram.
After creating an account, most probably you’d like to follow people to connect with them. But, what actually happens when you follow them? This is what I will be discussing in this blog post.
What Happens When You Follow Someone On Instagram
They Receive A Notification
For public accounts: When you press the Follow button on their profile, they will receive a notification that says [your-username] started following you.
For private accounts: Once you hit that Follow button on someone’s private profile, they will receive a notification that says [your-username] has requested to follow you.
If they have turned their notifications off for Instagram, they won’t receive any notifications. However, they can still see that you have followed them or requested to follow them in their Activity section on Instagram.
Their Stories and Posts Will Appear On Your Feed
Whenever they post a new story, it appears on your home screen at the top with a pink-red ring around their profile.
Also, when they post a new photo, video, or reel, it appears on your feed.
Note: For private accounts, they first need to accept your follow request before you can see their posts & stories.
