You might have come across the acronym “NSFW” on the internet and wondered what it really means. The term is also popular on social media platforms like Reddit.
What Does NSFW Mean?
The term “NSFW” stands for Not Safe For Work. It’s a common warning to Internet users that the content marked as NSFW is inappropriate to view at work or in public places.
It usually indicates sexual content, nudity, violence, or any other inappropriate content for those under 18.
Social Platforms like Reddit also have a feature called NSFW. You have an option to either enable or disable it.
Content creators might have marked their content as NSFW which will restrict you from viewing them.
If you have turned off NSFW content, Reddit will restrict you from viewing inappropriate content. While turning on the feature will allow you to view the content without any restriction.
In this blog post, I’ll be explaining to turn On the NSFW filter on Reddit. By default, the option is always turned off.
How to Turn ON NSFW on Reddit App (Android)
Step 1: Open the Reddit Application.
Step 2: Tap your profile icon in the top-left corner.
Step 3: Tap Settings located at the bottom.
Step 4: Turn ON Show NSFW content (I’m over 18) by tapping the toggle button.
This way you can enable NSFW content on Reddit.
If you want to Blur/Unblur the NSFW images, you can turn it ON/OFF as suitable for you. The option is just below the Show NSFW content.
Turn ON NSFW on Reddit App (iPhone)
There is no direct option on iPhone to turn on NSFW inside the app. You can either enable it using the web version or inside your iPhone’s Settings.
- Open the Settings App on your iPhone.
- Select Reddit under the Apps section.
- You can now turn ON NSFW content by tapping the toggle icon.
You can also choose to blur/unblur the adult content.
Turn ON NSFW on Reddit (Mobile Browser)
Step 1: Log in to your Reddit account on your mobile browser.
Step 2: Tap the three horizontal lines in the top-right corner of the screen.
Step 3: Select Settings, then Account Settings.
Step 4: It will now prompt you to open it in your browser or app. Select the browser you’re using.
Step 5: Go to the Feed Settings tab at the top and turn ON Adult content which will enable you to view NSFW content.
You can turn OFF the Safe browsing mode to view the content without being blurred.
Turn ON NSFW on Reddit (PC or Computer)
Step 1: Open Reddit on your PC or laptop’s browser.
Step 2: Once you are logged in, click the drop-down icon in the top-right corner of the window and select User Settings.
Step 3: Go to the Feed Settings tab. and turn ON Adult Content.
This will enable you to view adult and NSFW (not safe for work) content in your feed and search results.
Next to the Adult Content option, there is a Safe browsing mode. If you have turned ON this option, it will show you the adult content but with blurred media. If you don’t want the content to be blurred, turn it OFF by clicking the toggle button.
This is how you can turn ON NSFW content on Reddit on your Android, iPhone, or web version.
This option is only applicable to how you see content on your feed or search results.
Turn Your Profile Category to NSFW or SFW
If you are a content creator on Reddit, you can categorize your content as NSFW or SFW.
This can be done only on the web version of Reddit.
If you have content that falls under NSFW, you can mark your profile as NSFW. Here’s how to do it:
Step 1: Open Reddit on your mobile browser or PC.
Step 2: If you’re on mobile, tap the three lines at the top-right side, select Settings, then Account Settings. Go to the Profile tab and turn On NSFW.
If you are on a laptop or a PC, click the drop-down icon at the top right and select User Settings. Go to the profile tab and turn On NSFW.
If your account does not have any adult content, you can turn this OFF which makes your profile SFW (safe for work).
Note: If you make your profile as SFW and if your account contains NSFW content, it may lead to the suspension of the account.
