The messages you exchange on Snapchat soon vanish unless you save them. The vanishing message feature distinguishes Snapchat from other social media platforms. However, there may be times when you would like to see your Snapchat messages later in the future.
We will explain in this article how to see your Snapchat conversation history.
Method 1: See Saved Snapchat Messages
Step1: Launch the Snapchat app and open your Chat section by tapping the chat icon at the bottom of the screen. You can also go to your Chat section by swiping right on the camera screen.
Step2: Open the conversation containing the saved messages.
Step3: Scroll up to locate the saved messages. Your saved messages will appear highlighted in grey color.
It is worth noting that you can only see saved Snapchat messages by following the above guide. Your messages will not appear on the chat screen if you forget to save them.
Snapchat messages will disappear unless you save them. To save a message, tap it. It will become highlighted with a grey color when you save it. Note that when you save a message on your side of the Snapchat, it also gets saved on the other side of the conversation.
Method 2: Download Snapchat Account Data
Step1: Launch the Snapchat app and tap your Bitmoji to open your profile page.
Step2: On your profile page, tap the gear icon in the top-right corner.
Step3: Select My data under the Account Actions section.
Step4: Login to Snapchat by entering your login credentials.
Step5: Tap the Submit Request button at the bottom of the screen. The Submit Request button will not appear on your screen if you have not verified your email. To verify your email, tap Email in Settings and enter your email address. Afterward, open your mail and tap Confirm Email in the mail you received from Snapchat. Once your email is verified, the Submit Request will start appearing on your screen.
Step6: You will get a mail from Snapchat that will contain a link to download your account data. Tap the download link in the mail. You might have to log into Snapchat to verify your identity. Submit your request again if you do not receive the mail from Snapchat within 20 minutes of submitting your request.
Step7: Your Snapchat account data will be compressed into a zip file. Tap the zip file to download it. We suggest you use a computer for this purpose. You can also do that on your mobile device, but it will be easier on a Computer.
Step8: After downloading the zip file, unzip it.
Step9: Head into the folder named mydata~(a string of numbers).
Step10: Go inside the html folder, and open the document named chat_history.html.
You will see your saved messages inside this html file. Note that it will only contain saved text messages. In other words, you will not find unsaved text messages or media files inside the html document.
