Each time you open Instagram you may notice innumerable stories of people you follow where they update about their daily life. Sometimes, it feels good to watch stories, but at other times you may want to avoid seeing stories of certain people.
Maybe you don’t like what they share or they continuously keep posting which may be irritating for you. Whatever be the reason, you have an option to mute someone’s Instagram stories. You can also reverse the process if you decide to see someone’s story updates later.

How to Mute Someone’s Story On Instagram
There are usually two ways to mute someone’s story.
Method 1: From the Stories Bar
Step 1: Launch your Instagram application from your app drawer.
Step 2: You will see the stories appearing at the top of your screen. Search for the user’s story you want to mute.
Step 4: Once you found the person to mute, long-press the user’s story which will open an options menu at the bottom.
Step 5: Tap the “Mute” option and confirm it by tapping Mute Story.
The user’s story will no longer appear on the top of your feed. They will be hidden on the right-most section of the stories bar.
Method 2: From their Profile
Step 1: Visit the user’s profile whose stories you want to mute.
Step 2: Tap the Following button and select Mute.
Step 3: Tap the toggle icon next icon to Stories to make it blue.
That’s it, the user’s story is now muted.
How to Unmute Someone’s Story On Instagram
The unmuting process of Instagram Stories is equally easy as muting. Often, you may mute someone accidentally, and you may be completely unaware of it. In this case, reversal of the process is simple and can be done in few simple clicks.
There are two different options for unmuting someone, and you can adopt the one you find the easiest.
Method 1: From the Stories Panel
This process can be followed if you don’t remember who you have actually muted.
Step 1: Scroll the stories bar to the extreme right. The dimmed stories without the red circle around the profile are the ones you have muted.
Step 2: Long press the person’s profile you want to unmute.
Step 3: Tap the Unmute Story option that appears at the bottom.
Once this is completed, you are done with the unmute process in no time.
Method 2: From Their Profile
If you remember the user you muted, it’s easy to unmute their stories directly from their profile.
Step 1: Visit the user’s profile whose stories you want to unmute and tap the Following button.
Step 2: Tap the Mute option that appears on the screen.
Step 3: Toggle the switch next to Stories from blue to grey.
Once you’ve unmuted them, their stories start appearing normally on your feed.
Both the processes of mute and unmute can be done easily with the help of these simple steps. Instagram won’t notify the user that they have been muted or unmuted.
