But sometimes, it can be hard for someone to locate the share button and put the post directly to their Stories. This guide will exactly teach you to share an Instagram Post to your story whether it’s your own or someone else’s post.

Instagram’s New Update – July 2021

Instagram has recently started to test a new feature (RESHARE Sticker) that changes the way to share posts on Instagram Stories.

If you are unable to share a feed post to your story directly, you can use the new feature available on Instagram Stories which is explained below.

You can learn more about the new feature here: Reshare Sticker on Instagram Story

Share a Post on Instagram Story With the Newly Updated Feature

The new feature is not rolled out globally but it is in its testing phase with limited users.

With the new feature, whenever you tap the share icon (airplane icon) below the post, the Add post to your story option is no longer available. Instead of it, a new option appears as shown in the screenshot below which says, “Want to add a post to your story? Create a new story and use the reshare sticker that we’re testing. Try It”.

You need to create a new story first and use the RESHARE sticker to share a post of your choice to your story.

Here’s how to do it:

Step 1: You can tap Try It as shown above which will take you to the create mode on Story. Alternatively, you can create a new story as usual by clicking the + icon on your profile and selecting the Story option.

Step 2: Once you are on Story, go to create mode by taping the Aa icon.

Step 3: Select the Stickers icon at the top.

Step 4: Tap RESHARE sticker. You can also search it using the search bar.

Step 5: Clicking on the sticker opens a new page (as in the screenshot above) that displays your recently viewed posts on the first tab, saved posts on the second tab, and your posts on the last tab.

Step 6: Now, select the post that you want to share. If you are unable to find the post you want to share, go back & save the post and it will show up in the saved post section on the reshare sticker.

Step 7: You can now share the post to your story by tapping the Your Story icon in the bottom-left corner.

This was all about sharing a post to your story with the new feature.

As the new feature is not available to all users, you can continue with the guide below to share a post to your story in a usual way.

Step 5: If everything is ready, tap on Your Story at the bottom-left corner.

The original post will now be posted to your Story.

The original poster’s username will be displayed at the bottom so that the other users can understand the origin of the post. Also, you can tap the post and click on View Post to see the original post.

This is a great way to promote your content to your audience and increase engagement.

It’s easy to share your own post to your Story, but sometimes it’s challenging to share others’ posts to your story. Continue reading below to find out what’s causing the issue.

Why Can’t You Share a Post to Your Instagram Story 2021?

If you are a part of the new feature which is “RESHARE Sticker“, you may not be able to share a post directly to your story. You can share a post to your story using the first method mentioned above.

There could be mostly two reasons why you aren’t able to share someone else’s post to your Story:

  • The user has a private account.
  • The user has turned OFFAllow Resharing to Stories“.

In any of these two cases, Instagram will restrict you from sharing others’ posts to your story.

Private Account: If someone has a private account, you can’t share their post to your story.

Allow Resharing to Stories: If someone has turned off Resharing option, you can’t share their post directly to your story.

Where is Allow Resharing to Stories option on Instagram?

On your profile, tap the hamburger icon at the top-right corner. Select Settings >> Privacy >> Story >> Allow Sharing to Story.

If you want to restrict others from sharing your post to their stories, just turn off Allow Sharing to Story by tapping the toggle button.

How to Share a Post to Your Story if You Are Unable to Share It Directly

1) The first solution is to ask the other user to make their account public or turn ON Allow Resharing to Stories.

  • Navigate to the post that you want to download.
  • Tap on the three dots at the top and tap on Copy Link.
  • Open the link >> Instagram Photo Download
  • Paste the link you have copied and download it.
